First we found out how many drops of water we could fit on a 10 cent piece. It was heaps more than we thought!!!
Then we created a hypothesis about how many paper clips we could fit in a full cup of water. We guessed between 4 and 60. Amazingly we fitted 300!!! The surface of the water in the cup was bulging up!
The next day we tried all sorts of different objects. Marbles, plastic counters, dice and felt pen lids. We decided that the bigger the space an object takes up the more displacement occurs and the higher the water rises.
We also found out that water has a skin. If you carefully sat a plastic counter on the top it would float! We are going to learn about how it has a skin or surface soon!
Sam luved this experiment and even showed us how it worked by using an iceblock pushed down into a glass of water!! from Sonja
ReplyDeleteFantastic to hear!
ReplyDeleteAidan really enjoyed this experiment. Great work room one!!!
ReplyDeleteShaun & Aidan
What super fun to be experimenting with science concepts in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that water had a skin and am looking forward to hearing about your findings from your next experiment!
Megan (Finn's mum)
Eureka!
ReplyDelete300 is a lot of paper clips in a small jar from Chloe
ReplyDeleteAidan told us he really enjoyed doing the experiments. From Shaun
ReplyDeleteWe were afraid it was going to displace and flood and flood our class room.
ReplyDeleteWe got so many papper clips in I was amazed!
ReplyDeleteMackenzie reckons Science is great fun.
ReplyDeleteWe can't wait to hear about your next experiment!!! .....
